MOVE Drill Team Camp 2018

This summer, a new tradition began in the city of Mansfield’s drill team community. Our very own director, Mrs. Brooke Parlin, started a new drill team camp designed to bring together the schools in the district and create unity throughout an enormous group of dancers. Coined with the name MOVE, the camp was attended by both the varsity and JV teams of Legacy Silver Spurs and Lake Ridge Eagle Elite as well as the varsity Summit Sapphires and Timberview Celebrities. Each team learned 4-5 routines for various different occasions from pep rallies to competition to football season. The dancers got the opportunity to work with esteemed choreographers such as Summyr Whaley and Sammi Paradice. Summyr has danced as a Rockette and was in the movie “Miss Congeniality,” and Sammi used to be on the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blues team and is now a drill team director. The dancers who attended also got to work with the creator of Power Barre and the equipment behind it. Power Barre consists of different pieces of gear, each designed to strengthen specific muscles a dancer needs to be successful and strong. On the last night of camp, Show Offs were held open to the community to showcase what each team had worked on throughout the week. Also, the chosen All-Stars for the Camp Jazz and Camp Kick routines were announced. The following girls were chosen for All-City Jazz: Ashton Williams, Ayo Abiara, Emma Eidson, Sophie Ellis, Peyton Neal, Eboni Kinnel, Olivia Lawson, Allye Hand, Macie Lindstrom, and Carly Eisenhower. The following girls were chosen for All-Star Kick: Ashton Williams, Ayo Abiara, Chinwe Okafor, McKinley Finnell, Breanne Jackson, and Lauryn Reid. This week was full of excitement and a great learning experience for all of the dancers who attended, and Mrs. Parlin looks forward to holding her new camp again next year!
